What is berberine? Berberine is a plant alkaloid, a natural molecule that can be extracted from two different species: the Himalayan plant Berberis aristata (Dynveo berberine) or Berberis vulgaris (Chinese origin). Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine have used Berberis aristata for thousands of years for its many health benefits. Fruits and decoctions of bark or roots are used in preparations for treating metabolic, hepatic and bacterial disorders. It is also recommended for skin conditions. Today, this molecule is highly valued for its effects on glucose, insulin resistance, haemoglobin glycation (HbA1) and blood cholesterol levels. Its main mode of action is the activation of the central enzyme of energy metabolism, adenosine monophosphate kinase (AMPK). An ULTRA PURE grade The Berberis Aristata plant from which this extract originates is produced using sustainable methods. Growing and harvesting are done by hand, in the plant's natural environment and in keeping with its biological cycle. Once rinsed, the roots are ground before undergoing the extraction process. This consists of filtration followed by purification with water and ethanol. The extraction uses only "green" processes, known as Green Extraction. The resulting product is a 50:1 extract. This means that 50 kg of Berberis aristata are needed to obtain 1 kg of this Berberine HCl, pure at 98%. Efficacy Several scientific studies demonstrate the efficacy of berberine taken orally, from 300mg several times a day. These benefits have been highlighted on various metabolic and cardiovascular parameters: blood lipid and carbohydrate levels, cholesterol, hypertension, haemoglobin glycation. ANSES has confirmed the existence of pharmacological effects from a dose of 400mg. In light of the latest clinical studies carried out in humans and scientific opinions, berberine has a confirmed efficacy on blood sugar, cholesterol and lipids from a dose of 300mg per meal. As the maximum concentration in the blood is reached 4h after intake, doses should therefore be spaced out to avoid overdosing or side effects.
