About Black Cumin Black cumin, or nigella, is a spice from the Apiaceae family, native to Turkestan, Egypt and the eastern Mediterranean. Its fruit and seeds are traditionally used in cooking and as natural remedies. Nigella seed oil is rich in fatty acids (linoleic and oleic acids), plant sterols and volatile oils such as thymol, limonene and carvacrol. One of the major active compounds in black cumin is thymoquinone, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Indications and uses: Black cumin helps in cases of: lack of appetite, slow digestion, gastrointestinal spasms, intestinal parasites, breastfeeding, hypomenorrhoea, and dysmenorrhoea.
