They live within us and are controlled by our immune system, which notably inhibits their growth to limit their harmfulness.</p><p class="sc-desc__p">However, in the event of fatigue or a weakened immune system, their development is exponential and causes numerous conditions: ENT conditions (tonsillitis, bronchitis, otitis…) skin problems, colitis and gastrointestinal or genito-urinary imbalances etc…</p><p class="sc-desc__p">Fortunately, antibiotic and/or antifungal treatments exist and can temporarily take over from a weakened immune system. Unfortunately, this is not without consequences, because over the decades, antibiotic resistance has grown stronger and several types of bacteria now seem to resist almost all antibiotics, including the most powerful ones.</p><p class="sc-desc__p">The main issue is their grouping in the form of biofilms.</p><p class="sc-desc__p">Scientific studies and research have extensively demonstrated that bacteria and fungi have the ability to secrete (produce) a sort of gel or glue composed notably of sugars. In this way, bacteria build a dome inside which they are virtually indestructible. They organise themselves into BIOFILMS.</p><p class="sc-desc__p">Scientific studies now state that chronic inflammatory diseases are directly linked to the development of biofilms.</p><p class="sc-desc__p">Among them, in their chronic form, are bronchitis, tonsillitis, otitis, rhinopharyngitis, all chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, acne, psoriasis, dental plaque, cavities, periodontitis, and all chronic urogenital conditions: cystitis, vaginitis, vulvovaginitis, vaginal candidiasis etc… (COSTERTON, STEWART and GREENBERG, 1999).</p><p class="sc-desc__p">Impact of biofilm on immunity</p><p class="sc-desc__p">This dome is a foreign body that our immune system will recognise as such and try to destroy. However, all the strength and the various players of our immune system deployed to destroy these intruders are totally ineffective and have no effect on the bacteria and fungi protected by their dome.</p><p class="sc-desc__p">Certain substances produced by our immune system (notably phagocytic enzymes) will damage healthy tissue around the biofilm, causing chronic inflammation and tissue destruction.</p></section><section class="sc-desc__card"><h3 class="sc-desc__h">Faced with this overwhelming power of bacteria and fungi, what can be done?</h3><p class="sc-desc__p">Researchers have studied hundreds of chemical and natural substances with the aim of weakening this impenetrable dome, in order to control, or even eradicate, bacteria and fungi. Several of them have given good results. These include certain enzymes: cellulase and beta-glucosidase. They destabilise the dome and then allow other substances, recognised for their antibacterial and antifungal properties, to penetrate this dome and act against bacteria and fungi to limit their development.
