A high-quality plant oil Evening primrose seeds are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids including gamma-linolenic acid and linolenic acid. Evening primrose is a precursor of type 1 prostaglandins. The oil is very rich in essential fatty acids: 8 to 14% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), 60 to 80% linolenic acid, 6 to 11% oleic acid, 7% palmitic acid and 3% stearic acid. GLA is fundamental to the cell membrane and is a precursor of prostaglandins : PGE 1. These prostaglandins 1 act as natural anti-inflammatories1 and help, among other things, to regulate female hormones (oestrogen, progesterone, prolactin). GLA is therefore used in premenstrual syndrome as well as at the beginning and end of gynaecological life. The oil is recommended in capsule form at a dose of 1 to 4g per day.
