WHAT IS REISHI? Reishi ( Ganoderma lucidum or glossy ganoderma ) is one of the most widely used mushrooms in traditional Asian medicine for over 4000 years. It is nicknamed the “mushroom of immortality” thanks to its beneficial effects on the functioning of the body, immunity and healthy ageing. Its health benefits are due to numerous bioactive compounds, including the famous beta-glucans (long-chain polysaccharides). These molecules notably have the capacity to activate and control the first line of immune defence by stimulating the production of macrophages, white blood cells (NK lymphocytes) and by regulating cytokine production.
