SAMe S-Adenosylmethionine √ The SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine), more commonly known as SAMe, where the "e" refers to the "enteric" coating of the capsules, is an essential cofactor naturally present in the body. √ It is formed by combining Methionine (an amino acid) and Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which enables the transport of energy to cells. Its role is crucial within the body itself, since it contributes to the synthesis, activation and metabolism of hormones, notably the neurotransmitters : dopamine (which activates motivation and feelings of well-being) and serotonin (calming, soothing to the nervous system). SAMe therefore contributes to a positive mood and to regaining motivation during difficult periods. √ SAMe is obtained through yeast fermentation, without any solvent. √ As SAMe is unstable, natural stabilisers are added to prevent its degradation (tosylate disulfate). √ It is also interesting to know that SAMe is also involved in the liver's synthesis of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that reduces or prevents the oxidation of other substances. Glutathione is the most important intracellular antioxidant in the body.
