Superoxide dismutase is one of the enzymes produced by our own cells specifically to neutralise the free radicals that attack them. SOD helps combat the superoxide radical and convert the superoxide anion into hydrogen peroxide. This is then converted by the body into dioxygen and water molecules. However, this fat-soluble enzyme decreases with age.
