Description
Milk Thistle mother tincture √ Medicinal plant known for soothing digestive disorders of the gallbladder and liver. It is a liver protector that facilitates the regeneration of liver cells. √ Organic plant extract, fresh (not frozen). √ Macerated on-site at the harvest location (Origin France). History and traditional uses of Milk Thistle √ Found in the Mediterranean basin and North America, milk thistle, with its spiny leaves marbled with white and its intensely pink flowers, was formerly used for food purposes. Indeed, its genus name, « Silybum », has Greek origins; the term « sillybon » described an edible thistle. √ In herbal medicine, it is mainly its fruits that are harvested and dried. They are offered to stimulate the production of bile by the liver, thus promoting digestion and preventing the formation of gallstones. This plant is traditionally used in the symptomatic treatment of functional digestive disorders attributed to a liver origin. √ Milk thistle acts as a hepatoprotector, helping to protect the liver against the harmful effects of toxins, alcohol, UV exposure and other environmental stresses. Indeed, it can protect cells and tissues against oxidative damage by enabling their regeneration. √ An ally against various ailments related to the liver and digestion, it also helps regulate blood sugar. √ Finally, its species name, « marianum », is associated with the Virgin Mary. While fleeing Herod, travelling from Judea to Egypt, she is said to have hidden the Infant Jesus under a thicket of thistles, where she is said to have breastfed him. A few drops of her milk are said to have soaked into its leaves, leaving characteristic white marks. According to the doctrine of signatures, these marks symbolise the plant's ability to promote lactation. This use, less widespread, is said to still be practised.
