Plant sterols, or phytosterols, are fats found in small quantities in many food crops, in medicinal herbs and in other higher plant species, notably in the form of beta-sitosterol, of which 1% is sterolin. Their chemical structure is similar to that of cholesterol. Sitosterolin is the glucoside form of sitosterol. Sitosterolin enhances the effect of sitosterol. Moducare contains beta-sitosterol as well as the glucoside form of sitosterol in an optimal natural ratio of 100:1. The combination of the two sterols increases the effect; the 100:1 ratio appears to be the most optimal.
